Georgian Bathroom Style

Kirsty was asked about the Georgian Style this month at the manager's meeting. To answer all of your questions, we have created a walk through of this time period for you!

Georgian Period

Style between 1720-1840
Named after first 4 British Monarchs of the House of Hanover who were named George
Classical style combining straight lines and symmetry with ornate wood work details
Most common materials are marble, brick, and polished materials

An example of the wood work details from this period are these old english drawing books used to produce furniture (found here):

Georgian style puts an emphasis on wall decoration, especially wainscoting, friezes, and cornices.

This bathroom uses crown molding and marble to create a Georgian look (found here):

This classic bathroom was updated by putting colorful mosaics inside the wainscoting around the walls (found here):

I think this media room from 1st Option is quite cool! They turned an old basement into a fab space. The painted black ceiling is a great idea- as well as painting the exposed brick with a glossy black.

Using Kitchen Accessories in the Bathroom

Hi, I'm Lauren, Kirsty's new assistant. I'm doing a guest blog for Kirsty today!
A current trend that we are noticing is using Kitchen accessories in the Bathroom. Today we found a cake stand at Macy's that would work perfectly for stacking luxury soaps in a Bathroom!

Here are the stands that we liked. They are from the Martha Stewart Collection and are available in Black & White:

In addition to cake stands, we found fun serving trays at Macy's as well. We think that decorative soaps would look beautiful on these trays and your guests would really appreciate them:

Here a cake stand is used for storing soap and toiletries:

Here is a practical, every day use. Who doesn't love extra counter space?!

This soap would be a fun accessory and add a splash of color to a bathroom:

I remember Shari from our Plymouth store selling one a couple of years ago...this must be it. It looks amazing! The home was designed by Murphy and Co. Design and is the "Highcroft Residence" in Wayzata, MN. So great to see this in someone's home!

Fred from our Des Moines, IA store just sent me these photos. They are from the Huy Fong Foods new U.S. headquarters in Satna Ana, CA. The artchitect was visting Des Moines and stopped into the Tile Shop- he said the Stanley mosaic http://www.tileshop.com/product/productdetail.aspx?familyID=1903&recordID=5018605 had the perfect texture he had been searching for in his quest for a subtle yet elegant waterfall. Stunning New Mosaics

We just added some stunning new mosaic mixes to our collection!

The first two are the Coral Springs and Palm Harbor mixes. They feature a blend of stainless steel, mother of pearl, natural stone and glass. The Palm Harbor is a bit more expensive due to the rare black onyx...what a showpiece!

Pecan Luxor Bath Floor

I wanted to share this cute bath from Shari Goodchild in our Plymouth, MN store. She used the Pecan Luxor on the floor with the Laramie mosaic as a border.....a simple white subway is used on the tub surround. I love this combination...great job Shari!

We shopped at Bed Bath and Beyond during our East coast trip- and found some great designer items! I did not know that Kate Spade and Barbara Barry had done lines for this store....

They were very good quality- and she had good colors! They didn't have any bedding at the Baltimore location, but I know they do online from Kate:

Our tile was just featured on an episode of Bath Crashers on the DIY network. The show was entitled "Open and Accessible" and the bathroom was designed to be wheelchair accessible. They used the Antares Porcelain tile with the Multi tumbled 1" stone mosaic. Check it out:

"Sneak Peek" of our new Dunwoody location

We'll be opening our new Dunwoody location in the next couple of days. It will be our second store in Atlanta!! They still need to finish up with the tile, fixtures, etc....but Mark sent me these photos this morning. I'll be there later this summer to accessorize and will take more photos....

This will have a really cool wall hung vanity under the faucet!! Slate mixed with granite:

I used grey cabinets with Claros Silver stone in this bathroom:

I love the bright pops of color the graphics have in the black and white bath. I plan to use some vibrant accessories from Potterybarn Teen!

Megan and I just returned from our Chicago/Milwaukee trip to see the Dreambath Makeover completed and some stores. You may remember the Dreambath Contest we had last Febuary...we furnished the winners with a design, custom cabinets, our tile, Kohler fixtures and accessories. Our winners were Matt and Suzanne Witt from Evergreen Park, Illinois. Here are the photos.......

AFTER: They selected Hampton Carrara Marble in various sizes with the Caribbean glass mosaic. The fixtures are from Kohler and we had the cabinets custom made at the woodshop. They still need a window treatment and a new door with trim (will be white):

I have been a little obssesed with Britney's new "Femme Fatale" album lately....I also am quite intrigued by this design trend. The phrase is French for "deadly woman". As a lifestyle trend, it can create a dark and moody ambiance- like a mysterious and seductive woman. It usually features feminine motifs in dark colors....

Our new store in Westbury, NY is almost complete....it should be open for business sometime next week!! Mark is out there right now to help set up and sent me these photos- just a sneak peak of the store...it's not done yet. Can't wait for this new collection from Brizo...it's beautiful!
